The Telangana Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy has unveiled an ambitious plan to expand Hyderabad Metro Rail to Medchal and Shamirpet, providing a New Year gift to tech professionals and daily commuters in Hyderabad’s northern suburbs.
The Telangana Chief Minister has instructed Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) officials to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for these two new metro corridors within three months. This expansion is expected to significantly improve connectivity for rapidly growing residential and industrial areas.
According to HAML Managing Director NVS Reddy, the Paradise-Medchal corridor will cover approximately 23 kilometers, linking Tadbund, Bowenpally, Suchitra Circle, Kompally, and Kandlakoya, and ending near the Outer Ring Road (ORR) exit. Meanwhile, the JBS-Shameerpet route, stretching 22 kilometers, will pass through Tirumalagiri, Lothukunta, Alwal, Bollaram, and Hakimpet.
In a high-level meeting with Municipal Administration Principal Secretary M Dana Kishore and HAML MD, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for expediting the project to meet the growing demand for public transportation in these areas. He assured the state government’s commitment to approving the project promptly once the DPRs are finalized.
Similar to the Phase-2 ‘A’ metro expansion, this project will also follow a joint venture model involving both the Central and state governments. HAML has already initiated the groundwork for DPR preparation and related documentation to ensure swift progress. This initiative aligns with the government’s vision of creating a world-class public transport network in Hyderabad while easing traffic congestion and boosting urban mobility in key regions.
