39th President of the United States of America and centenarian Jimmy Carter died today, Sunday, December 29, 2024. James Earl Carter Jr. born on October 1, 1924 was an American politician and humanitarian who served as the president of the United States from 1977 to 1981.
As member of the Democratic Party, he was the longest-lived president in U.S. history, and the first to reach 100 years of age. Carter was a lifelong Sunday school teacher and drew thousands from around the world to his tiny hometown, Plains in Georgia to listen to him. Carter had been receiving hospice care since February 2023 at his home in Plains, Georgia.
After leaving the White House, the Carters sought out meaningful ways to continue their commitment to social justice and basic human rights. They built houses world wide through Habitat for Humanity. Carter and his wife Rosalynn Carter were advocates and driving force in the field of mental health throughout their public service.
