History of International Women’s Day

The history dates back to February 28, 1909, when the American Socialist Party celebrated National Women’s Day in New York City, USA. Labor activist Theresa Malkiel initiated this day to protest the oppression faced by garment workers. The significance of the day was recognized, and American socialist leaders explained why Women’s Day should be celebrated.

However, at that time, there was no specific day set for it. Later, in 1975 and 1977, the United Nations celebrated International Women’s Day, officially declaring March 8 as the day. This day aims to protect women’s rights and take action to ensure they live peacefully.

The celebration concluded with a delightful feast, bringing everyone together for a moment of togetherness and gratitude. The Women’s Day event at Golden Venue was a true reflection of VSS’s commitment to fostering a supportive and vibrant community for women.
