Naperville, Illinois, May 16, 2026: The Greater Chicago Indian Community (GCIC) proudly hosted its 2026 Indoor Chess Tournament at the Nicholas Public library, bringing together chess enthusiasts from across the Chicagoland area for a day filled with strategy, focus, and friendly competition.
Participants demonstrated exceptional analytical skills, patience, and sportsmanship throughout the event, creating an engaging and competitive atmosphere for players and spectators alike. “This tournament was organized to encourage community participation, promote strategic thinking, and provide a competitive platform for chess players,” said Shashank Saduneni, GCIC President.
“The enthusiasm and discipline displayed by all participants made the event truly memorable.” The tournament’s success was made possible through the efforts of the the Greater Chicago Indian Community (GCIC) Sports and Planning Committees.
Key organizers included Surendran Semalai, Hemachandru Nerlige Rangappa, Siva Arige, Venkateswarulu Gajjela, Shashank Saduneni, Srujan Nainappagari, Seshu Chamarthi, Siva Reddy Palagiri, Charanasree, Venkat Perumal and Chandana who coordinated registrations, match schedules, scoring, and overall event execution.
At the conclusion of the event, trophies were awarded to the top-performing players in recognition of their outstanding performance and dedication. President Saduneni thanked the sponsors, volunteers, participants, and community members for their continued support and expressed excitement for an even bigger chess tournament in 2027.
