The India tricolor flag hoisted first-time at the iconic Space Needle in Seattle, Washington

India’s flag was held high in the air as people gathered to celebrate India’s Independence Day on August 15th, 2025, in Seattle, Washington. Marking the 79th Independence Day of India, this historic event took place at the Seattle’s most famous 605-foot-tall Space Needle.

The Consul General of India Prakash Guptha, the Mayor Bruce Harrell, Washington Telangana association (WATA) leadershp, TTA Ex President Vamshi Reddy Kancharakuntla and many other dignitaries from Seattle hoisted the tricolor flag.

Located in the Lower Queen Anne neighborhood and defining symbol of Seattle’s skyline, the Space Needle is one of the most famous landmarks in Seattle with an observation deck atop the tower that was built for the 1962 World’s Fair.

With a height of 605 feet, Seattle’s Space Needle features a round observation deck which gives a 360-degree view of downtown Seattle, Mount Rainier and Puget Sound. Elevators take visitors to this observation deck above the ground in 41 seconds.
