Ever since the Georgia Chamber of Commerce created Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program in 1958, the Forsyth County has welcomed the highest number of STAR students, 23, this year in 2023. It is a great honor for the County and the residents of Forsyth County, Georgia.

The Cumming Kiwanis Club held its 2023 STAR Student Banquet on Tuesday, February 7th to celebrate these 23 Forsyth students academic excellence and the teachers who helped them find success. This annual event was held at the University of North Georgia’s city of Cumming campus located off of exit 14 on GA 400 / US 19.

In their speeches, it is very motivating to see these smart kids talking about the hard work, preparation, their teacher’s help, and what they want to study in college etc. 15 of these 23 kids achieving the same score represents the very tough competition in Forsyth County schools.

Among these 23 students with in the Forsyth County High Schools, the Lambert High School stood first followed by South Forsyth High School with 7 and 4 students in number respectively. Alliance Academy for Innovation and Forsyth Central High School are a tie with 3 students from each in 3rd place.

STAR program honors Georgia’s highest achieving high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. Since 1958, nearly 29,000 high school seniors and their teachers are honored in the state of Georgia.

The purpose of the program is to recognize academic achievement, motivate students, honor excellence in teaching and increase the interaction between students and the business community. Every accredited high school in Georgia is eligible to participate in this preeminent student and teacher academic recognition.

As requested by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and the State Department of Education, the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation has taken the responsibility of overseeing, administering and promoting of the statewide STAR program since mid 1990’s.

PAGE is the largest educator association in the state of Georgia. Serving more than 95,000 educators, administrators, and school personnel, PAGE fosters exceptional levels of professionalism in the classroom and within administrative ranks. After the local, then regional and final state level PAGE STAR Competition and Banquet will be held on April 24, 2023.

To obtain the STAR nomination, high school students must have the highest score on any single test date of the SAT taken through the November test date of their senior year and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average (GPA).
