TTA Indianapolis Chapter reiterates the significance of Bathukamma festival in Indiana area

Bathukamma, the iconic festival of Telangana State, is celebrated by women during the Dussehra Navaratri period throughout the region. Since its establishment, the Telangana American Telugu Association (TTA) has consistently organized Bathukamma celebrations across the United States, drawing significant participation from women engaging in traditional festivities.

With blessings from TTA Founder Dr. Pailla Malla Reddy garu, Advisory Chair Dr. Vijayapal Reddy garu, Co-Chair Dr. Mohan Reddy Patlolla garu, members Bharat Madadi garu, and Srinivas Anugu garu, and under the leadership of TTA President Naveen Reddy Mallipeddi garu and Executive Director & Nationwide Bathukamma Advisor Kavitha Reddy, this year’s celebrations are successfully coordinating in multiple states.

Thousands of men, women, and children participating nationwide, reflecting strong community engagement and contributing to the resounding success of these events. On September 21, 2025, the Telangana Association of America (TTA) organized the largest Bathukamma festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. The event was attended by approximately 1200+ Indiana families, who demonstrated their appreciation for Telangana’s traditions, culture, and the significance of the Bathukamma festival.

TTA Advisory Chair Dr. Vijayapal Reddy and Shobha Reddy provided strategic guidance to TTA Executive Director Kavitha Reddy, TTA Indiana Regional Vice President Ravinder Reddy Purumandla, Standing Committee Co-chairs Suveer Reddy Mallareddygari and Sushanth Reddy Kallem, the TTA Indiana team, and numerous volunteers, all of whom collaborated to plan and execute the event at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Noblesville, Indiana. Attendees created a lively atmosphere, wearing colorful traditional clothes that added to the venue’s cultural feel.

The Bathukamma celebration started at 2 PM with a traditional welcome led by the Dhol Tasha Sukumar Garugu group performing on Daff (Dappu). Guests were greeted as participants arrived elegantly dressed and presented innovative and beautifully made bathukammas, including notable examples such as Shiva Lingam Bathukamma and Amma Vaaru Bathukamma, among many other creative and traditional.

The festive atmosphere was elevated by the presence of numerous women in traditional attire, contributing to the vibrant energy of the event. Following the commencement, TTA Indianapolis leadership officially inaugurated the Bathukamma festivities, with Akshaya Lingala opening the program with a Ganesh Pradhana from Mahathi Music Academy.

Attendees socialized in groups, women started playing Bathukamma until the arrival of our guest of honor, Sue Finkam, Mayor of Carmel City, along with distinguished guest Dr. Anita Joshi, City Council at 4:30PM. Upon their entrance, TTA leadership welcomed them, highlighted TTA’s activities on the video wall, and included them in the Bathukamma procession by Daff, appreciated sponsors, and Bathukamma play.

TTA Indianapolis ladies built 7 feet beautiful traditional Bathukamma with all real marigold, carnations, mums and ever greens which was the highlight of the event. The Classy Event Decors, Swapna did the Venue decorations so beautifully. All the guests took at least one picture at Amma varu location and at the TTA Logo photo booth.

Our media Team Himanth Reddy and Charan Reddy captured every moment of the event including drone videos. Our Audio and Video Team flawlessly were managed by Srikanth Gorripati and BWS Inc, which added more joy to the event to watch about TTA and TTA activities happening around the globe. Food was served by Hyderabad House restaurant.

At 5:30 pm the cultural segment led by Sandhya Rapolu further energized the gathering, with attendees participating enthusiastically in Telangana dances. After the cultural segment, beautiful ladies continued to play Bathukamma. The event concluded at 7:30 PM with remarks on TTA’s 10th anniversary, prize distribution recognizing outstanding performances for best dance, best dressed, and best play across three categories, as well as awards for three girls and Amma vaari Harathi by Sujatha Kolla and Shilpa Narla, after which our Bathukamma amma vaaru send off with daff and immersed in water.

TTA Indiana Team and with the support of many volunteers, who all participated in TTA bathukamma promo reel making, cultural groups, shopping, shipping, bathukamma making, decorations, venue setup, audio setup and video setup, etc., made these celebrations an astounding success.
