TATA of NC, popularly known as Triangle Area Telugu Association (TATA) of North Carolina (NC) past president Arun Kumar Neppalli was arrested on January 17th 2023 for an investment scam. Arun Kumar had also served as a board member of the Hindu Society of North Carolina and as a president of Twin Lakes Master Association in Cary, North Carolina.

Arun Kumar is very familiar in the Indian community of the metropolitan area in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, The Research Triangle, anchored by the cities of Raleigh, Durham and the town of Chapel Hill. He worked as a Chapel Hill’s traffic engineer between 2000 and 2021.

As per The News & Observer, it seems like Arun Kumar Neppalli minted money from his investors pulling into a fraud Ponzi scheme using the trust and relations built in the fellow Indian community. Apparently, the 56 years old Arun Kumar filed for bankruptcy. He is expected to go to trial later this year and could face up to 20 years in prison, if convicted.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office is working closely with the FBI to identify, investigate, and pursue those who cheat people out of their hard-earned money. The FBI’s Triangle Fraud Taskforce is continuing to investigate this financial case. For more details, visit U.S. Department of Justice.
