Vibrant and colorful TTA Bathukamma celebrations in Indianapolis, Indiana

Telangana State iconic festival Bathukamma is celebrated across Telangana State by women during Dussehra Navaratri days. Since the inception of Telangana American Telugu Association (TTA), it has been organizing Bathukamma Celebrations across the US with a large number of women attending and playing Bathukamma.

With the blessing from TTA Founder Dr. Pailla Malla Reddy, support from TTA Advisory Chair Dr. Vijayapal Reddy, Co-Chair Dr. Mohan Reddy Patlolla, Member Bharat Madadi and under the leadership of TTA President Vamshi Reddy, TTA General Secretary and Nationwide Bathukamma Advisor Kavitha Reddy coordinated Bathukamma celebrations across the USA in many states this year. Thousands of Men, Women and Children are participating, showing their affection, and making this event great success.

On October 21, 2023, TTA celebrated the biggest Bathukamma festival in Indianapolis, IN. Approximately One Thousand Telugu people attended this event and showed their affection to Telangana tradition, culture, and their love towards Bathukamma festival. TTA Advisory Chair Dr. Vijayapal Reddy and TTA General Secretary Kavitha Reddy, TTA Indiana Regional Vice President Ravinder Reddy Purumandla, TTA Indiana team and many more volunteers planned and executed the event at Oak Trace Elementary School, Westfield, IN.

The ladies at the event were very vibrant and colorful and created an astonishing festive atmosphere at the venue. Bathukamma celebration started at 3 pm with a stunning Dhol Tasha group by playing Dhol and invited the all elegant ladies with around 50 beautiful bathukammalu. Many women streamed into the venue with traditional dressing and created a vibrant spirit at the venue, followed by the TTA leadership inaugurated the bathukamma event and Adwita and Ananya performed an inaugural classical Ganesha dance.

Srinath Kodali from Namaste Restaurant Detroit, Michigan made dinner arrangements. Under the leadership of TTA Advisory Chair spouse Mrs. Shobha Reddy, Harish Kanthala, TTA RVP Ravinder Reddy Purumandla, and TTA volunteers served delightful food to all the guests starting around 7PM. TTA Indianapolis ladies built 7 feet beautiful traditional Bathukamma with all real marigold, thangedu, mums and rose flowers which was the highlight of the event. This was built under the leadership of Kavitha Reddy, supported by Usha, Nalanda, Shakila, Harati, Bindu, Priya and many volunteers.

TTA Indianapolis 35 ladies performed a mesmerizing dance performance in the midway of the bathukamma event, which was very charming and made the bathukamma event more graceful. All ladies devotionally played bathukamma for at least 3 hours continuously with enthusiasm. TTA Advisory Chair Dr. Vijayapal Reddy introduced TTA Mission, TTA Mega Convention details, and TTA Activities at the event and introduced Indiana chapter leadership to the guests and audience.

The Classy Event Decors, Swapna did the Venue decorations so beautifully. All the guests took at least one picture at the photo booth and or at the Ganesh idol. TTA Youth volunteers Akshay Purumandla managed the DJ for the bathukamma event and Atharav Naik helped with Pictures at the event. TTA sponsored 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for best dressed women, best bathukammalu, best bathukamma players. Bathukammas were immersed in water marking the closure of the program with the Aarati song by Shilpa and team.

TTA Indiana Team and with the support of many volunteers made these celebrations an astounding success. There were many clothing and jewelry stalls arranged at the event to attract attendees, just in time for upcoming festivals Dussehra and Diwali.
