TAMA’s 16th semiannual chess tournament with automated pairing: Chesstronics

Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta (TAMA) organized the second chess tournament of the year on October 22nd, 2022. It is conducted in-person after 2 1/2 years due to the COVID-19. Around 65 players participated in this tournament, and this is sponsored by Sekhar Reddy Putta.

It is the first in-person event, the automated pairing and standing is done using Chesstronics platform. The participants played in-person at Brookwood Elementary School in Cumming, GA. There are five different sections (Rated U1500, U1000, U500 and unrated Adults & Kids) where USCF in-person rating is used for the rated sections.

One of the goals of TAMA is to bring out the best in kids. TAMA has been conducting rated and unrated semiannual chess tournaments for the last 8 years. We have seen a gradual increase in the number of participants year over year and also saw tremendous enthusiasm by the kids, adults to play the game, take the result either won or lost on the chin and play the game with utmost sportsmanship.

Tournament started at 10 am with a welcome note by TAMA Technology Secretary Sreenivasulu Ramisetty. This tournament is supervised by Suriya with the help of other coaches Alex and vuhan until 5 pm. Kids of different ages came and showcased their chess skills. A total of 4 rounds were played at 10.30 am, 12.15 pm, 2.00 pm and 3.15 pm.

TAMA strives to encourage the kids to participate in more and more competitive sports by presenting medals to all the participants in the tournament. Chief Tournament Director Suriya made sure there were no glitches and Rajesh Jampala lent his volunteer hand to make this event a great success.

The delicious pizza, beverages and snacks are provided to the participants, parents and volunteers, everyone enjoyed the food and beverages throughout the event. The Atlanta metro city reputed Realtor Shekar Putta came forward for sponsoring the tournament and supporting TAMA.

Winners of different sections are awarded trophies by TAMA president Ravi Kalli, other executive team members Suresh Bandaru, Rupendra Vemulapalli, Sreenivasulu Ramisetty, Suneel Devarapalli, Harsha Koppula, Yaswanth Jonnalagadda, Satya Guthula with the support of TAMA Chairman Sreeram Royyala, Board Treasurer Madhukar Yarlagadda and Board Directors Vijay Kothapalli, and Praveen Bopanna.

TAMA President Ravi Kalli and Board Chairman Sreeram Royyala thanked Chesstronics team, Rajesh Jampala, TAMA Executive Committee and Board members, Volunteers, Participants and Parents for helping to conduct the tournament seamlessly. Sports & Youth Secretary Thiru Chillapalli gave a thank you note and concluded the event.
