We have seen news about busy Indian airports with lot of students having F1 visa and I20’s heading to US in the last couple of days. Parents, relatives and friends were cheering and giving send off to those students in a happy mood. But for some of them, it didn’t last long, not even 24 hours.

Around 21 students landed in US with masters degree admission were sent back to India on Wednesday, August 16th 2023. Due to a surge in visa approvals abroad, it seems like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials are drilling the students with lot of questions.

They have even checked the students’ mobile phones, emails, and social media accounts posing questions about the universities they are attending, field of study, visa interviews etc. and found some discrepancies. The students were kept in closed rooms for hours and were not allowed to talk to anyone including Indian Embassy or their parents.

Finally they were deported back to Delhi in Air India flights. This happened in Atlanta, Chicago, and San Francisco airports. Some of these students are stuck in Delhi International Airport on return as the ICE officials did not provide deportation papers in time.
