Telangana American Telugu Association (TTA) is celebrating Bonalu festival and Alai Balai in multiple cities across the United States. Tampa, New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Seattle, and Charlotte have scheduled this famous Telangana traditional festival celebrations. Some are already celebrated and some are scheduled.

Bonalu is a traditional festival that holds deep cultural significance. The word “Bonalu” originates from “Bhojanam”, a Sanskrit word meaning a grand feast or meal in Telugu. During this auspicious occasion, women prepare a special offering for the Mother Goddess.

They cook rice with milk and jaggery in a beautifully adorned brass or earthen pot, complete with neem leaves, turmeric, vermilion, and a glowing lamp on top. With pots gracefully balanced on their heads, women visit temples, offering the Bonam along with turmeric-vermilion, bangles, and saree to the divine Mother Goddess.

Telangana American Telugu Association (TTA) leadership requests everyone to come together and pay homage to the divine feminine energy during this joyous festival planned to celebrate in various cities across the United States of America. Check the individual city chapter flyers for more details.
