Be the Match; Bone Marrow Drive @ NRIVA Convention in St. Louis, Missouri

NRI Vasavi Association (NRIVA) is conducting a bone marrow drive at their 7th global convention on July 4, 5, 6 in St. Louis, Missouri. NRIVA HIT (Health Impact Team) committee including chair Dr. Siresha Samudrala, co-chair Dr. Raghu Kanumury, and members Divakar Jandyam, Jaisree Chitluri, Nagendra Boggarapu are leading the efforts.

The bone marrow registry, also known as the bone marrow donor registry, is a database of volunteer donors who are willing to donate their bone marrow or blood stem cells to patients in need of a transplant. The registry is used to match potential donors with patients who have diseases that require a bone marrow transplant, such as leukemia, lymphoma, or other blood disorders.

To join the bone marrow registry, individuals need to provide a sample of their DNA, usually through a simple cheek swab. This sample is then analyzed and the genetic information is stored in the registry. When a patient needs a transplant, doctors search the registry for a matching donor based on the patient’s tissue type. If a match is found, the potential donor is contacted to discuss further testing and potential donation.

Registering as a bone marrow donor is a selfless act that can potentially save someone’s life. Visit the bone marrow registry booth at the NRIVA convention in America’s Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Check the flyer for more details.
