The recent Perini Natyam performance at Ravindra Bharati, Hyderabad, was a significant event aimed at preserving and promoting this ancient art form of Telangana. This event was organized in collaboration with the Government of Telangana, NYTTA (New York Telangana Telugu Association) and Manidweepa Arts Academy.

The event successfully brought together 150 artists, including Gurus and Shishyas, showcasing the cultural heritage of Perini Natyam. This dance, also known as Perini Shivathandavam or Perini Thandavam, is rooted in the Kakatiya dynasty and was historically performed by soldiers in honor of Lord Shiva before heading into battle, earning it the nickname “Dance of Warriors.”

The event attracted over 800 attendees, including several senior Perini artists, Telangana’s Cultural and Art Director Harikrishna Mamidi and Dr. Dwarakanath Reddy. The New York Telangana Telugu Association under the leadership of President Vani Singirikonda expressed gratitude to all the donors.

Vani also conveyed special thanks to Dr. Pailla Malla Reddy for his unwavering support. This occasion followed a successful showcase of Perini artists at the NYTTA Sambaralu in New York in March 2024, further solidifying NYTTA’s commitment to supporting and encouraging ancient art forms.

The performances were a visual delight, reflecting the dedication and skill of the artists. Several executive committee members of NYTTA (New York Telangana Telugu Association) traveled to India to witness and support this cultural initiative, underscoring the organization’s commitment to cultural exchange and preservation.
